Medicine Hat Memorial Triples Tournament

Category : News Item 2016

The Medicine Hat Memorial Triples Tournament was a great success with 20 teams playing all day Saturday and half of Sunday.  A huge thank you to the volunteer crew from the Royal Lawn Bowling Club for helping ensure the event was so successful!  First and second winners were crowned in four different divisions with the team from Lethbridge of Robert & Esther Rodzinyak and Al McGarty winning the overall trophy again for the second year.  All the players also voted for who they felt was the most outstanding and supportive skip and the Ben Osterman Award was presented to Dolly Gouw!

Manager for Majors’ Team being sought

Category : News Item 2016

The Alberta team is set for the Bowls Canada Championships to be held in Edmonton, August 14 – 20. We have two teams for the divisions of women’s pairs, triples and fours, and for men’s fours, along with one pairs and one triples men’s teams. So a large provincial team of 31 players are ready to roll.

Applications for Team Manager are now being accepted. This individual will accompany the team and perform duties before, during and after the championships to help with many of the logistics dealing with a large team of players.

The LBAA office will be accepting applications for this position until July 27. The Vice President and President of LBAA will then go through the applicants and recommend someone for the position for approval by the full LBAA board. Please note that the manager will be expected to stay at the host designated hotel for the event unless they live in Edmonton. The Team Manager will be funded up to the maximum but not more than what the team players receive.

Please see the Team Manager-Coach Policy that clearly outlines the duties of the manager-coach. If you need any further details please contact the office or speak to the Vice-President, Cecilia Gillespie.

All applications will be acknowledged as received and the successful applicant will be contacted and announced by August 1.

Visually Impaired Bowlers Need Assistance

The Alberta Sports and Recreation Association for the Blind is a non profit organization that supports blind and visually impaired Albertans, of all ages, to live physically active lives. They do this through sport and recreation programming, exposure events and by partnering with other sport organizations to offer quality programs and experiences for our members. ASRAB is currently seeking individuals interested in supporting our lawn bowl athletes as “Directors”. Directors assist the blind or visually impaired bowler with their positioning for throwing, giving feedback and information about the game and keeping score. If you would be interested in becoming a lawn bowl director, please contact the Edmonton Program Coordinator at or by calling 780-638-1227.
