Canadian Mixed Pairs Championship

Category : News Item 2018

The Canadian Mixed Pairs Championship was held last week at the Qualicum Beach Lawn Bowling Club in BC.  Keith Wylie and Shannon Roden represented AB and had an outstanding week.  Congratulations to them on winning the Silver medal!!

Canadian Senior Triples Championships

Calgary Lawn Bowling Club did a marvelous job hosting the Canadian Senior Triples Championships last week!  The weather became very challenging but the warmth of the hospitality, the great lunches and continual snacks and the tight competition among the teams kept the players foraging ahead in their winter jackets, toques and mittens and armed with hand warmers. Check out the marvelous final video they had produced: 2018 Cnd Sr. Triples Championships.

Our women’s teams had a tremendous week as both teams got to stand on the podium when the competition came to a close!  Congratulations to Janette Mackie, Cathy Dallas and Christine Adams on the Gold and to Margaret Bruce, Sharon Brunelle and Cathy Wieliczko on winning the Bronze.

A huge congratulations to the Calgary Lawn Bowling Club, its Host Committee members and all the volunteers that made the Championships a most outstanding event!

The last few weeks!!

Category : News Item 2018

Much has happened since I left the office on August 17 only to return today and I am sorry for the lack of posting of many important events that occurred over that time span.  I will attempt to catch up with just a few highlights and links to pages on our website.

First there were the Open Triples held in Calgary and in Edmonton followed the next weekend by the Novice Pairs again held in both Calgary and Edmonton.  For the results of those events check out the Provincial Results 2018 page.  Participation in the events was great once again offering many of our new bowlers that introduction to competitive bowling. Thank you to the host clubs, Stanley Park, Highlands, Bow Valley and the Royal Lawn Bowling Clubs and the many volunteers that helped make the events successful.

Meanwhile the Canadian Championships for Pairs, Fours and Singles were held in Regina from August 22 to 29.  AB sent two women’s pairs and one men’s pairs teams along with one women’s and one men’s fours teams. Five of the players attending for pairs and fours stayed on for the last four days to represent AB in the Singles competition along with one additional player.  I hope you followed the results on the Bowls Canada website or on Facebook!  Many pictures were also posted on Facebook by both Bowls Canada and the Regina Lawn Bowling Club. You can check some out on the BCB Facebook page here.

Our AB players did great taking home two Gold medals and one Silver medal in pairs!  Our women’s fours team played strong and came away with fourth.  Our women’s team also took home the Lady Alexander trophy awarded to the team that secured the most points during the round robin tournament!  In the Singles we came up against some strong competition in certain pools, struggled through some games, and our overall outcome was down from previous years. A fourth in the women’s side was the top achievement.  Congratulations to all the players for their great playing, sportsmanship and great results.
